Four new apprentices join Lewisham's workforce
9:10am Saturday 28th January 2012

FOUR new apprentices have joined Lewisham’s workforce as painters and decorators.
In their second year of running the scheme, Phoenix Community Housing, Lewisham College and Mulalley have welcomed the recruits to work on the Decent Homes Project.
They will help with improvements on a 6,500 home estate.
The trainees, Kurtis Smith, aged 19, 20-year-old Fahren Clifton, Lee Treen, 17 and James Botting, aged 17, will gain practical experience over two years, and attend college one day a week.
Mr Clifton said: "I was really pleased to be offered the position. I had applied for about 60 jobs and not had any luck, so without this apprenticeship I would have been unemployed and wouldn’t have had much of a future.
“I want to make the most of this opportunity and hope to get permanent full time employment at the end of it.”
